The creates story

Creates came about from the vision of Sir Rod Aldridge, OBE. A vision for more practical and experiential learning for students, and more affordable and innovative space for startups. All of this aligns with the Aldridge Foundation vision of Transforming Communities Through Entrepreneurship.

Kensington Creates is not the first of its kind. Darwen Aldridge Community Academy (DACA) was launched back in 2011, and with it, the very first iteration of a new kind of business and educational space - Aldridge Creates.

Fast forward to 2014, and Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA) becomes the latest in the Aldridge network of academies. Kensington Creates was born, and so began an adventure for a cohort of startups based out of North Kensington.

Then, the Grenfell Tragedy of 2016 devastated the community. KAA was directly impacted because of it’s proximity, and all activity was moved to a secondary site. Creates was shut down for over a year.

Today, Kensington Creates is open once again, with a reinvigorated vision and strategy. Now, Creates aims to support more people than ever before, and is committed to leveraging the value that the national network provides. The only reason Creates can accomplish what it does is through the people who engage with it. So what are you waiting for?

In a nutshell…

Creates is a physical space containing semi-private offices and a breakout space, located in a school-building. We curate a small group of semi-permanent start-up members, and cater to a range of individuals and groups through our events and meet-ups. Through this, we can expose our students to diverse practical learning experiences, all with the aim of every single one of students leaving school going on to living the fulfilling life of their choosing.
